Church House Bookshop is a specialist Christian bookshop based in the heart of Westminster. The space supports a bookshop and also functioned as a reception area for adjoining office spaces. The introduction of a café aimed to attract a broader audience and generate additional revenue.
Retail Design
We were tasked with reimagining an underutilised space to create a more open, inviting environment. The goal was to maximise natural light, improve spatial flow, and integrate the new cafe space.
Interior Design
Through detailed masterplanning and concept development, we designed a multifunctional environment that seamlessly integrates every requirement and the differing demands on the space The layout was carefully considered to make best use of natural light and create a welcoming atmosphere for both visitors and staff.
Glazing was used strategically to separate the café and bookshop areas – solving a challenging planning issue with a contemporary, elegant solution.
Impact
The redesigned space and cafe increased revenue by providing a new offer for the adjoining office staff. The thoughtful use of materials and glazing to separate the two offers solved a difficult planning problem while respecting constraints, in a contemporary and innovative way.
The result is a more engaging, commercially viable space that better serves the needs of the community and the organisation.
